Why I love SHREDDED WHEAT?
Simple, It has 1 ingredient: WHEAT. Wheat, and nothing else! If you follow me for a while you will know that I am always going on about checking the ingredients on a product before you check the nutritional value.
There are typically 5 to 10 ingredients in most cereals, these include sugars, emulsifiers, artificial flavoring, etc. For this reason, always stick with products that have the least amount of ingredients.
If you check the ingredients on your oats the ingredients are JUST oats, in the shredded wheat it’s just WHEAT, and nothing else! So it is great to have the option to eat a cereal that contains only one ingredient, and also a great option to have when you are rushing in the morning.
My boys love the bitesize variety! They are very handy to bring with you in little containers for a quick snack in a car trip.
Also, over the weekends, my boys usually have an egg and toast for breakfast, a proper dinner at lunch time and for tea I like to stick with something simple and that involves little or no mess in the kitchen. By giving them a bowl of BITESIZE SHREDDED WHEAT for tea time, I find it is very handy.
Just add milk, some banana, berries and honey and this is better than any other microwaved meal or frozen processed food! And it takes less time than any of those mentioned above.
The BITESIZE SHREDDED WHEAT it is also very tasty when mixed with some yogurt and berries for a pre-work snack. Remember that you need fuel to have energy for a proper workout. So this is an ideal snack. I also have seen runners and other fitness fanatics using it as a recovery meal after your workout.
I personally prefer to have it before working out and stick to some sort of protein and good fats for afterwards.
I know a lot of people keep away from cereals because of the unfair fame carbohydrates have, also some people think they should eat a high protein breakfast, but as much as we need protein we also need a good carbohydrate. If you wanted to add some protein to your shredded wheat, you can add a tablespoon of vanilla vegan protein powder, or a handful of pumpkin seeds. Yes, pumpkin seeds are high in protein, magnesium, omega-3 and Zinc. So it is actually a great way to include pumpkin seeds into your diet.
Remember: When living a healthy lifestyle it is never about limiting yourself, it is all about balance, about enjoying life and being happy with yourself. It is never about feeling hungry, feeling limited, counting calories and living your life around an app that tells you how many calories left you have in a day, eat, nurture your body and go work-out!
