Haakka Review

I’m writing this post as I breastfeed my girl so you all breastfeeding moms know too well the art of multitasking!

I got sent this famous device that everybody is loving! So I decided to write a review for all those moms that are or are planning to breastfeed.

How does it work?

You simply squeeze the body of it, place you nipple right in the middle of the hole and let go. The suction does all the job by itself and all the milk that is a let down falls into it.

The best way of using it is to use it on the opposite breast while your baby feeds on the other one.

Now, when you place it before baby feeds you will mostly get the foremilk. So it is important you do the same on the other breast after your baby feed so you get the hindmilk.

The term foremilk refers to the milk at the begging of a feeding; hindmilk refers to milk at the endnof a feeding, which has a higher fat content than the milk at the begging.

I love the fact that is just one piece and you can really bring it anywhere. It would be brilliant if you are out and about without baby and you get full and need to pump some milk!

I also bought the Medela manual pump (which is also really good) but to be honest I only used it once because this has been so much handier. Although have in mind that the milk of the haakka is brilliant for occasional feeds to compliment baby latching but if you are going back to work and baby will only feed expressed milk, the pump is essential as well because a pump will get more hindmilk than the haakka would.

A good tip is to make sure you hold the bottom part that suction your breast as milk can leak if you aren’t holding properly and you don’t want to waste that gold juice.

In conclusion I think is a must if you are breastfeeding to get milk very easy as an extra feed if you are going to the gym or cut your hair or you just want a nap and want dad to help with a feed!

I’ve been getting 2-3 ounces every time I put it in and I only put in for a few minutes. I would probably get more if I leave longer.

How to wash it?

Rinse it straight away after use don’t let any milk sit on it for long to avoid stains.’

Wash it with warm soapy water and sterilise every 24hrs. Although because my baby was preterm I sterilise after every use.

It is also dishwasher friendly but I would recommend it as you don’t want the haakka to stain and no longer be transported as you won’t be able to see how much milk has fall into it

Where to buy it? And how much is it?

It is 24.50 and you can buy here:

BUY HAAKKA

You also need the little flower lid to avoid any contamination go into the milk

Now I hope I answered all the questions! If there is something I didn’t include please let me know! Now I better go and keep feeding this little lady! đź’•
